If you missed my previous post about my fighting toys, here it is!

Hot Toys The Avengers Iron Man Mark VI

30 05 2012

Contrary to popular belief, Iron Man’s helmet is not “worn” over his head. You actually have to pluck out the entire helmet and stick RDJ’s head in its place, which is quite creepy the first time you do it. The lights on his chest and palms are nice but please don’t ask me how to replace the batteries when they run out – I have no idea.

Should I get Loki next???

Capcom vs SNK 2 Action Figures – Ryu, Ken, Kyo, Iori

21 03 2012

I never really played Capcom vs SNK 2, in fact I think I’ve only touched it once in an arcade a long time ago. This game is one of the few times you can get Ryu and Ken of Street Fighter to go against Kyo and Iori of The King of Fighters (KOF). I have always been under the impression that Street Fighter characters are lame and the KOF characters are the cool bunch, so I never got into Street Fighter as a kid. But now that I’ve wasted countless evenings playing Street Fighter IV, I guess I can see why Street Fighter is widely considered the best fighting game ever. Having said that, KOF is still awesome as well!

Playing Street Fighter x Tekken!

6 03 2012

It’s finally in my hands… the eagerly anticipated Street Fighter x Tekken! This crossover fighter brings together two of the most distinguished and respected fighting game franchises of all time, and it is awesome. Upon tearing away the ever-irritating plastic wrapping and popping the disc into my Xbox360, I launched myself straight into arcade mode with my boys Ryu and Ken.

To my delight, Capcom has produced an extremely fun game that will excite both the hardcore fanbase and those who are not so familiar with fighting games. All the attacks look and feel smooth, and combos are easier to pull off. The tag system a la Tekken Tag Tournament is interesting and will provide hours and hours of trying out new combo possibilities.

As awesome as this game is, I have two major complains:

1) The gems system (which is some sort of RPG element) is totally redundant if you asked me. I don’t want to be thinking about my gems during a match, wondering if I’ve chosen the right ones. Furthermore, the super saiyan glow on your character when a gem is activated looks ridiculous and is totally distracting.

2) At a later date, I am expected to pay extra money to buy extra characters that are ALREADY IN THE DISC.

I don’t want to end this post on a downer, so here are some subjectively exciting screen shots I took with my camera phone. SFxTK is definitely worth picking up for all fans of the genre!

My Marvel Legends Iron Man & X-23

3 02 2012

Oh how I love the “First Appearance Iron Man”, which is how he looked in his first comic appearance (Tales of Suspense #39 – March 1963), as well as in the 2008 Iron Man movie. That scene where he’s busting out of a cave using an armour that he built IN A CAVE (WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!) is definitely the defining moment of the Iron Man story in which Tony Stark learns that with great power there must also come great responsibility (or something like that…)

X-23 is a character that was created for the X-Men Evolution animated series on Kids WB. Not a bad show, but nowhere as good as the 90s X-Men animated series (which is the only X-Men cartoon to watch, really).
