After School Red – In The Night Sky – Music Video Review

29 07 2011

When this music video started playing, I was thinking oh man, this is a rip-off of Big Bang’s Love Songbut after it was over, I knew that I couldn’t be more wrong. After School Red’s In The Night Sky is unlike anything I’ve ever seen, and it is AMAZING.

Everything from the truck to the campfire to Nana’s Avril Lavigne hairstyle is ineffably good, it kills me as to how it all came together. This music video never lets go of your attention for even a single moment, and I like how it doesn’t repeat itself. The plot is constantly moving forward from the Mad Max / Book of Eli opening to the Dance With Wolves gathering, and ending with the high energy night party.

The song is unbelievably catchy, and I didn’t even know these four girls could sing this well. Kahi, JungAh and Uee are great, but Nana’s sweet voice combined with her magnetic eyes and smile makes her the one to watch. The dancing is insanely brilliant. That pushing-the-wall move is easy and fun to follow, and the girls do it with an enormous amount of flair and power.

The important winning ingredient here is those people dancing around the campfire. Just like in T-ara’s Roly Poly, you see how the singing and dancing brings people together to have a good time. The best thing about this music video is that it doesn’t cut to a totally different location for its “story”. The story here is nicely blended into the song, and everything is a tight sturdy package.

My initial reaction to After School having subgroups was that it’s stupid, but now I might have to rethink that statement. A.S. Red is a fiery K-pop girl group that has more juice than SNSD (Girls’ Generation) and more punch than 2NE1. PLEASE don’t let this be a one-hit-wonder.
