SNSD (aka Girls’ Generation) is a 9 member South Korean girl group that shot to insane stardom with the recent “K-Pop” craze. The music video for Oh! starts out with the girls hanging out in a house, a few of them giggling at a computer screen even though I’m not sure what is so amusing about “Girls’ ❤ You”. Then the video cuts to them in a locker room, dancing away all cute and bubbly. So if you like your SNSD all cute and bubbly, this video is for you.
A football player walks across the screen and causes a “Star Wars Wipe”. Later on, you get more random football players showing up and it gets a little distracting. It is like when someone walks in front of the screen during a pirated recording in a cinema. The American football imagery gives off a weird feeling, but the girls dressing up as cheerleaders seem to make sense since they are going for a cute look.
Anyway, we see the girls trying out some cheerleader moves which the blonde messes up (she’s the only blonde, so apparently she failed to coordinate her hair colour as well). I have an idea – why don’t we get the girls to do some actual cheerleading stunts since they are all in cheerleading uniforms. I would be surprised if their manager never thought of this idea, but maybe it would be very exhausting during live performances.
All the winking and smiling is harmless, although they become a tad irritating after a while. There isn’t anything extremely painful to watch other than the football players walking around and blocking my view of the dancing. Speaking of the dancing, I didn’t fancy the parts where they all froze and only some of them moved. Nevertheless, most of the dance choreography is pretty good, especially the outdoor stuff.
Despite my petty nitpicks, Oh! is a good addition to the SNSD library and fans will eat the whole thing up.
