My entire being was trembling as I clicked on BIGBANG’s new music video Blue. Does BIGBANG still got it? Does their management know what to do with them? The answer: Yes, they still got it. Yes, they are in good hands.
And what a way to make a comeback. Thank goodness this is not another disco-party get-high nonsense that most other K-pop boy bands seem to be doing. Blue is a slow and steady music video with both style and substance. Our boys can sing very well, the best being – well, do I really want to pick a best? All five of them (G-Dragon, Taeyang, T.O.P, Daesung and Seungri) are unique in their own ways, and they complement one another nicely. However, I do think it’s a shame that they don’t get to dance here.
Blue reminds me of BIGBANG’s previous music video Love Song, which was (and still is) one of the best K-pop music videos I’ve ever seen. Although I like both music videos a lot, Blue doesn’t quite give off the razor-sharp vibe that Love Song possess. Nevertheless, Blue is a deeply intriguing experience for both the eyes and the ears. This music video and its ambiguous narrative creates a very atmospheric experience that slowly absorbs you into itself, and I didn’t even realise I was nodding my head along to the beat.
Fans are going crazy over the BIGBANG and it’s not hard to see why. Blue is a magnificent comeback for BIGBANG, and I hope this style of BIGBANG is to stay.
